Human nature is my inspiration. How man is confronted by his/her inner self, and as a consequence, his/her surrounding external environment. Harmony or tension?
What I am interested in is the dynamics of these relationships.
My works are expressive and monumental, but not loud.
My forms, apparently inward looking, are symbolic human figures formed within approximate contours. For me the heavy abstraction is not a distancing from the natural world but instead serves comprehension and transparency.
It highlights the important and discards the unnecessary. My figures are about human relationships, while at the same time indicating a strong bond with nature. That is why I like to position my work in both architectonic and natural environments, thereby inviting man and environment to dialogue.
I also play with the dimension of time. My statues suggest timelessness, as though they bear the secrets of some ancient civilisation, while at the same time being recognisably contemporary works of art.
